Urban Planner (Canada Summer Jobs)
Position Summary
The Urban Planner will be responsible for preliminary site assessments of potential future affordable student housing sites.
Role and Responsibilities
Land Use Identification: Work alongside the Chief Planning Officer to identify and evaluate university land for potential affordable housing projects.
Land Acquisition Assistance: Support the identification of potential site partners, participate in research, and assist in preliminary negotiations.
Planning Policy Research: Conduct research and analysis on applicable planning policies, such as official plans, zoning by-laws, and the Ontario Planning Act.
Development Applications: Assist in preparing planning reports and materials for project business plans and development applications.
Land Use Planning Support: Provide assistance in preparing proposals for Official Plan Amendments, Zoning By-Law Amendments, Minor Variance applications, and Site Plan Approvals.
Community Research and Consultations: Coordinate and support student unions in community engagement efforts, including consultations and stakeholder communication.
Salary: $20/hr, 30 hours per week, 12 weeks
Contract Type: Fixed term – Full-time, flexible start date, May/June 2025 to July/August 2025
